Ty Rhyg

A busy morning at Ty Rhyg today with a very wintery feeling in a chilly  north east wind. At least 800 redwings passed overhead around dawn with c 500 fieldfares a little later in the morning, all heading north east, into wind. Blackbirds and song thrushes were also present in higher numbers than usual. Other winter visitors included a woodcock, 2 bramblings and a jack snipe. In the conifers were lots of goldcrests, long-tailed tits, blue tits, coal tits, a willow tit, 2 treecreepers, 2 chiffchaffs, 3 crossbills, at least 12 lesser redpolls, and 2 male sparrowhawks hoping for a snack. Notable absentees were reed bunting and migrating starlings.
