Gann update

Apologies our last update was back 16th May, hadn't realised it had been so long...there hasn't been masses to report, spring has (generally) gradually slid into early summer.  Some brief highlights:

Moorhen - we finally added this to our house list, with one creeping around the reeds on 3 dates (including today)
Sanderling - a regular sight in small numbers, but they shot up to an impressive 21 this evening ('just' 5 this morning!) (photo of mixed wader flock below)
Dunlin - passage has tailed off, but a second surge with 30 today being the highest since 45 on 8th May
Ringed Plover - as Dunlin, a second surge peaking at 29 today
Knot - a single today on the flooded lagoon this evening
Bar-tailed Godwit - 2 birds today, 1 since 31st May
Black-tailed Godwit - 1 today (presume same seen on 31st May & 1st June) (photo below)
Whimbrel - almost daily sightings (and regularly heard calling), max. 7 on 19th
Curlew - slowly building again after dropping down to a single bird, 14 today (ringed bird no.34 still about after returning on 10th May)
Oystercatcher - regularly around 50 or so, with at least 11 colour-ringed birds, climbing to a peak of 67 on 2nd & 3rd
Shelduck - have been holding our breath to see if the 2-3 pairs hanging around the Gann this spring would produce any young, the answer is a resounding no (so far)
Little Egret - sightings tailed off through May, and then 6 arrived on 29th May with 7 on 2nd June (all appeared to be adults...)
Black-headed Gull - irregular, max. 4 on 19th (we did not see Derek's Mediterranean Gull)
Greylag Goose - 3 resting on the lagoon on 21st May, and a single over on 2nd
Grasshopper Warbler - 1 singing towards dusk & after dark on still evenings
