Landshipping > Angle Bay > Penally

We had a brief look at Landshipping on a rising tide where there were typical shore birds including 30 or so Redshanks, a few Greenshanks, a single Black-tailed Godwit and 100 or so Teal. We then headed over for short stay at Angle Bay (Kilpaison/Rhoscrowther-side) on our way to look for a possible chough roost at Penally. It was quite misty by the time we got to Angle Bay, where Andy Simms and John Stephens were watching a Little Stint feeding along the shore among the numerous Dunlin and Ringed Plovers. Several Pale-bellied Brents were also on the shore but moved away towards the village end of the bay. Three wigeon were loafing on the sea but they too flew off eventually.

We couldn't see any Curlew Sandpipers or Knot but perhaps they too were over on the village harbour-side? At least one of the Ringed Plovers was colour-ringed.

We haven't had time yet to find out where it was ringed - assuming it isn't a Gann-bird

Later, a small flock of Choughs flew up towards Giltar from Penally golf course right on cue at about 19:00 hrs. However, they didn't stay to roost in an expected location. Instead c.16 in total went over to roost on Caldey Island - somewhere on the south side. Nice to see but not as impressive as the 60 or more that have been observed by Greg Morgan roosting on Ramsey recently.
