Landshipping to Coedcanlas via Sam's Wood circuit

A few more swallows were feeding around Daugleddau area between Landshipping and Sam’s Wood this afternoon. They're gradually trickling back to the farms in this area, but we've yet to see a house martin this year.

Three greenshanks were resting on the shore south of Landshipping Quay with a few redshanks still around. We thought they'd all departed and also all of the teal, but we noted eight resting in Millars Park lagoon. A large chunky female wheatear resting on top of a large patch of seaweed, although not a new bird for the area, was the first one we’d seen here this spring.

There are plenty of linnets around now – various pairs establishing breeding territories along the roadside hedgerows. There were a few more blackcaps and willow warblers singing along the route too but, apart from the wheatear, there were no particularly obvious additional migrants around.
