Another flyover Lapwing about an hour after Dave's, heading towards Skomer.
One possible reason for the complete lack of passerines in the Car Park field may be a pair of Peregrines (including a truly massive female, with a large black hood and huge almost-white triangle on the breast) that spent 20 minutes "beating up" the area at around 9am. A wonderful sight, as they chased 4 Collared Doves, alternating between stooping, flying low up the valley, and hedge hopping like Sparrowhawks. The Peregrines spent 5-10 minutes resting in the very middle of the field before flying off.
I have seen this female in the area before, she is very distinctive, in both colouring and size: well worth looking out for.
Once calm returned, a steady stream of Chiffchaffs, Blackcaps, Goldcrests, assorted finches, and at least 2 (identifiable) Willow Warblers. The biggest surprise was two Great Spotted Woodpeckers in the sallows. We get a few of these every autumn, presumably a post-breeding dispersal.
Little unusual on the Deer Park first thing: a broad spread of Stonechats, many recently-fledged, and large numbers of Meadow Pipits, both overhead and on the ground. No Wheatears or Whinchats, though.
