winter thrushes

Redwings have been around for a while now this month, but we are not seeing that many during the day in our general area - too mild perhaps? So it was nice to see a flock of several hundred thrushes (mostly redwings and c. 50-100 fieldfares) flying over the A40 near Slebech early this afternoon.

There are still plenty of berries to feed on (it has been an excellent season for autumn fruits!) but thrushes moving through the area will need to be quick if they want to exploit them. Quite a lot of fruit in our local hedgerows has probably already been lost to the flail-mowers.
