Slebech Starling roost

Although numbers of starlings using the reed-bed roost are not as high as they were a few years ago, there must have been at least 50,000 (perhaps as many as 100,000) birds coming into the reed-bed this evening.

There were also at least 2 Firecrests calling near the Minwear Wood viewing point at dusk before going to roost nearby. A small tightly-packed flock of 8 Little Grebes was also on the river - perhaps they were also watching the waves of starling flocks dropping in. There were no obvious raptors patrolling the area this evening.
