Castlemartin Range today

A visit to Castlemartin with members of the Range Nature Conservation Group was fairly quiet as far as birds were concerned. However it was nice to find 2 Ring Ouzels feeding alongside the Linney Road near Castle Lady Valley. They were found at lunch-time and were still in the same location mid afternoon. A fine male merlin was noted briefly perching on a grassy tump near Linney Head.

All day there was a small movement of swallows, spread over quite a broad front along the peninsula with just the occasional sand martin coming in off the sea.

Choughs were noted in various places but it seemed that most pairs near known nest-sites had not yet finally settled, Perhaps it's going to be a later breeding season here this year?
