Martin's Haven

A family group of 6 Choughs (2 adults, 4 rather noisy and very early-rising fledglings) are probably from the nest site on the south side of the Deer Park. They fly up and down pretty regularly between the anvil (the SW tip of the Deer Park) and Little Castle Bay.

A pair of Kestrels are welcome returners to the area. They seem to be in the same area, and have been seen carrying food, but no signs of fledglings yet. As far as I am aware, Kestrels last nested in the immediate area 2-3 years ago, but on the north coast, near the haven itself.

Plenty of young small birds in the valley now: Stonechats, Goldfinches, Linnets and Whitethroats have all fledged their (hopefully first) broods. But a pair of Swallows have taken every time that I have opened the door of our shed as an opportunity to swoop inside and look for a nest site!

Lots of Manx Shearwaters heard over the valley on these fairly moonless nights, but typically late: 1AM-2AM. And lone Whimbrels heard each of Friday-Sunday.
