Stunning Tawny Owl

We found this Tawny Owl sitting by the side of the road just outside Crundale at 8-45am. It appeared to have hit a car, and was clearly stunned. Based on the time, it could have been sitting there on the carriageway for an hour or more. It let us pick it up without any protest. After warming it up in the sun for 15 minutes or so in an adjacent field, it eventually (after a few false starts) flew off over the field hedge without any apparent sign of serious injury. A very happy outcome, and an unusual opportunity to see one of these beautiful birds so close up - and the really striking thing about it was how light it seemed in the hand for its size, but with immensely strong legs and feet.
