Martins Haven area

The Short-eared Owl was a real treat: it hunted up and down the garden and over the Deer Park for a good 10 minutes at 1345, spooking a Water Rail into calling. There are big flocks of birds on several of the Trehill Farm fields: several hundred Jackdaws and far more Starlings on one field, and c.300 Lapwings and c.40 Golden Plover on the ploughed field next to the car park. And several flocks of 20+ Skylarks.
A couple of short sea watches off Wooltack Point over the weekend gave a fleeting glimpse at long range of a possible petrel, two adult Med Gulls, and a nice range of plumages of Guillemots, Kittiwakes and Black-headed Gulls.
