On the Nevern at Newport this morning there was a colour ringed Lesser Black-backed Gull, 5C:W.
This bird was ringed on Skokholm as an adult female on 13-May-14, and has been back on the island for each subsequent breeding season. This is the first time she's been sighted away from Skokholm, but her typical winter movements are well known because she was fitted with a tracker as well as a ring. In contrast to others who winter in Spain or North Africa, she prefers to stay local. This is the track of her movements in the winter of 2014/15, taken from the 2015 Skokholm Seabird Report.
Also present at Newport this morning were two Skokholm ringed Greater Black Backs.
Many thanks to Richard Brown for all this information.
