MYRTLE WARBLER – RAMSEY

A cracking 2CY male MYRTLE WARBLER at the farm on Ramsey today.

First reported by a day visitor at 12:30. Identified from a BOC shot and relocated within 5 minutes moving between the stonewalls outside the toilets and the pig-sty’s. The bird then promptly took cover when 30 people came off the lunchtime boat and inexplicably every one of them needed to use the facilities!

It took me a very nervous hour to relocate the bird, eventually found feeding on the ground with linnets.

We then had amazing close views (down to 2 meters at times) as the bird fed in the yard, sheltering from the gusty wind.

The bird was still at the farm at 16:50.

Thanks to the Davies family for realising it was something different and coming to find me. Thanks also to my long-term volunteer Pete Ramsey for the photos and to my technical advisers at West Coast Birdwatching and on Skokholm Island for help with ageing and sexing this bird.

Boats are already busy for tomorrow, with people travelling from all over, so please don’t just turn up at St Justinian’s if you are interested, as you may be disappointed. I'll try to do everything to get people over who want to come. Phone Thousand Islands to book a place on 01437 721721.
