just a comment from a raptorphile about the gyr
I too would love to see one in the wild but the fact that this bird is getting sighted in people's gardens and perching on walls makes me think this could be a falconry escapee. It's not really the behaviour I would expect from a wild gyr. I have checked on the falconry forums and there is a white gyr reported lost but that sounded like an adult male bird. Perhaps if anyone is lucky enough to get to see it again, have a look with a scope to see if it is close-ringed or carrying jesses. I hope I'm proved wrong and that more of you get to see this extraordinary bird.
