I know what Dave means for it once happened to me, when noticing a leucistic Lapwing among a flock of normal birds near Hasguard Cross on 13 November 1983. First seen in flight the thought of juvenile Sociable Plover sprung to mind. It was not to be but it was an exciting event and a memorable bird.
