Standing in for Richard Crossen, today I accompanied Morris North onto Castlemartin Corse for this month's Webs count.
It is always a treat to be with Morris who's upfront friendliness with the local farmers allows access to land I'd normally not be able to bird.
And such access today gave excellent views of 2 Hen Harriers and a juvenile female Marsh Harrier, the latter having been present on the Corse for several weeks.
As for the Webs count, flock numbers were unremarkable: Golden Plover 120, Lapwing +700, Curlew 200, Wigeon 170, Mallard 40, Teal 60, Little Grebe 2, visible Snipe 20, a single Merlin and Sparrowhawk and 2 Buzzards, but 200 Skylark and 28 Shoveler did impress. Mixed flocks of Chaffinch, Greenfinch, Linnet and Reed Bunting were unexceptional.
