As Steve says, each field has a scattering of Lapwings but two south facing fields up by Kensington (on the way up to St Brides) also had about 150 Golden Plovers - first time I have seen them in the fields around here. If only one were to fly over the house it would be a new garden bird!
Speaking of which, I threw some bits of apple on the lawn this afternoon and 3 Herring Gullls came straight down to eat them - one first winter, one second winter and one adult. Great close views of the different plumages. It is the first time I have seen them actually down on the lawn though they often perch on our telephone pole. We were also visited by 3 Jays - again wonderful close views.
The wooden poles attract other birds too - the local male Great Spotted Woodpecker has spent all day drumming on the metal plate on top of our electricity power pole - obviously all the peanuts he eats are getting him in fine breeding fettle.
