Gann - Wednesday 10th March

A lovely sunny afternoon at the Gann yesterday, and at last, for the first time in over 20 years of visits, I finally caught up with an Otter there! I was priviliged to watch one at ranges down to 20 feet or so, feeding on crabs in the river a short distance upstream of the wooden footbridge. It would take less than 30 seconds each time to catch and return to shore. In my opinion this was a smaller animal than the one I saw crossing the road at Mullock on 31st December. Photos digiscoped with a £100 Samsung camera with a dodgy shutter!

Also at the Gann at least 6 Med Gulls including a green-ringed bird that I could not read, 5 adults and a first-year, the latter and at least 2 of the adults being different to those seen on Monday, highlighting the turnover currently. Lots of Common Gulls around so worth keeping a sharp eye out for a Ring-billed moving north. Brents were up to 29, including KLWR, and other birds included a pair of Wigeon, 20 Teal, 10 Redshank, 1 Greenshank & 1 Little Egret.
