First instinct, juvenile Dunlin, but then the doubts set in - they looked very long bodied with short necks and a horizontal posture, they were feeding amongst the stones at the edge of the pools (not on the beach) and I thought I might be able to see a white rump. I sent Peter back home for the camera and the bird book and of course they were juvenile Dunlin.
