The vagrant emperor

Nice images and an excellent find Jon. It would be very worthwhile to send your record and a copy of the images to the County Dragonfly Recorder, Stephen Coker. He would, I'm sure, be very pleased to have the details. His email address is stephenandanne.coker@virgin.net

On the bird front, Annie and I visited N Pembs yesterday collecting roving records from inland tetrads in the Gwaun Valley and in a small block to the south of Strumble/east of Goodwick. It was nice to see several red kites (3-4 individuals on the way up between Treffgarne and Scleddau) as well as others hunting over Rhosycaerau and Manorowen areas. There were not less than three separate merlins (including two perched near each other on separate boulders in the Carn Gelli area). When in flight hunting they certainly stirred up small flocks of linnets and meadow pipits quite a bit. A couple of small lapwing flocks were around the Rhosycaerau area (c. 150 in total) and 14 curlews were feeding inland at Rhos y Clegyrn. There were also plenty of snipe and woodcock in the general wetland areas visited. In the Gwaun valley willow tits were seen in one location.
