Angle Area
Again, very quiet at Kilpaison this morning with just 4 Whimbrel, 6 Ringed Plovers and 20 Oystercatchers. This Grey Plover in magnificent summer plumage was, however, ample compensation for the lack of numbers. The wing stretch shows the black axillaries ("armpits") which are kept in winter plumage nicely. Shame the sun didn't come out to light up the bird but I guess I'm being greedy.
At Freshwater West the strong south westerly wind made for an impressive stormy sea. Again there were few waders - 4 Sanderling and 3 Whimbrel. As I left c.25 small waders flew over the dunes heading inland - Dunlin probably.
