Just a quick note on the most note worthy birds seen whilst staying at the chalet park at Freshwater East.
We started the day with a Firecrest at the back of the chalet park, Freshwater east by the Boat Park sign. Not a bad way to start the day, and I hadn't travelled more than 100metres from my front door. A trip to Fishguard harbour was tame with just a little gull and around 20 brent geese circling overhead. Back to south pembrokeshire and Freshwater West where a merlin was hunting amongst a flock of meadow pipits and a short eared owl heading straight out to sea! We finished the day at St Govans and an excellent cup of tea at the tea rooms follwed by 4 whooper swans flying east and two short eared owls hunting near the white building 500yds from St Govans head car park.
Sunday was less exciting but a quick look from the beach at Freshwater east found us a Great Nothern Diver in almost full summer plummage! Finally as we packed up a red kite flew over the chalet being harrased by the resident gulls and crows.(my list for the chalet park is getting better with every visit including chough, peregrine, tawny owl, firecrest, most of the warblers, greater spotted woodpecker and a decent list from the beach). I'll keep watching as I think the area isn't watched much and the area at the back of the beach must be ideal for a mega.
