St. Bride's Bay

Given the still conditions, decided to do a thorough search of St. Bride's Bay from Newgale to Broad Haven.  At Newgale the marsh was quiet with just 2 Teal & 4 Mallard.  Offshore a little more lively, with 22 Common Scoter (20 females, 2 imm males), a Red-throated Diver, 14 Wigeon, 1 Teal & a Razorbill.  Nothing at Nolton, but at Druidston 19 Common Scoter (18 females, 1 imm male), 5 Wigeon, 3 Teal, 1 Great Northern Diver, 9 Red-throated Diver and 3 Razorbill.  Haroldston was superb - counted a total of 402 Golden Plover in one field with 30 Lapwing, and a very showy Peregrine atop a narrow stack.  Offshore was also great...a minimum of 302 Common Scoter in many small flocks, all the way south towards Broad Haven, sadly many far out and impossible to sex.  Another Great Northern Diver here along with 4 Red-throated.  At Broad Haven the female Surf Scoter once more the closest scoter, and with 160 Common Scoter counted (perhaps some 50 were additional to the counts I made from Haroldston), along with another 3 Red-throated Diver.  So something in the order of 400 Common Scoter in the bay....more than I have counted here in a long time.
