A late afternoon walk from Broad Haven to Haroldston & back - the female Surf Scoter was again off the beach, initially towards the south/Little Haven, but latterly mid-beach (last reported on Birdguides 27th January). 6 Purple Sandpiper were roosting with Turnstone on the northern side of the western end of the rock in the photo (best viewed from a little further up the coast path). Offshore a number of scattered flocks of Common Scoter, numbering perhaps 150, a few groups closer in but most quite far out. One of the closer groups, about half way to Haroldston, included a drake Pintail and, to my surprise and delight, a drake Long-tailed Duck. I will have to dig into my records to find the last LTD here, or anywhere in St. Bride's Bay, but it was a good few years ago. Lovely end to the day.
