High Seas!

Some of the biggest seas I have seen at Strumble yestewrday afternoon. Created by a large tide ebbing against the prevailing North Westerly gale, some of the waves were truly beautiful I can reccomend wave watching in such spectacular sorroundings. And in amongst them  a steady movement of Fulmars  swooping and careening amongst the giant breakers, truly in their element. Auks and kittiwakes streamed through in small parties and within an hour twenty five gannets passed by. Added to Gregs observations from Ramsay, that probably adds up to a couple of hundred or more, in ones and two's, a significant number by winter standards. We can only hope they are not heading towards the spill that seems to be contaminating seabirds on the South Coast. From what I can see it seems to be quite small scale, probably unlikely to affect birds here. I hope the RSPCA makes sure the birds they have rescued are properly weighed measured and ringed as part of their rehabilitation prior to release.
