Divers and Terns

Yesterday morning (Saturday) two astonishingly confiding Great Northerns in Dale bay. One is moulting into full summer plumage, the other may be a 1W bird; still essentially white and grey. They were close together, and seemed totally unconcerned by the boat, swimming gently towards it to within 5 metres. Alas, no camera to hand. Of note, friends in Dale whose house is on the sea front believe that they have heard a Great Northern wailing at night in recent weeks: what a wonderful sound that would be in Pembrokeshire!

On the pontoon in Dale Roads 6 Sandwich Terns.
