Yesterday's Wetland Bird Survey counts were down as expected for March, particularly Wigeon and Teal. The wintering single Knot and Grey Plover turned up to be counted along with just 4 Ringed Plover, 2 Dunlin and 2 Turnstone. 7 Goldeneye have spent the winter above the bypass bridge.
Having seen Cormorants already back on their nests it is no surprise that only 2 were around the estuary.
It was good to see this one very close up to be able to enjoy its rather nice plumage and bright face pattern.
