From John Shrouder - On my bike in Berea this afternoon I disturbed a pair of Peregrines
feeding on a gull on the roadside verge. The female then perched on
a telegraph pole and the male on a fence post with both birds then
within ten yards of me. Even without binos I had splendid views of both birds
for several minutes. The female continued calling then circled back to
join the male back on the kill. There was ploughing in a nearby field so
maybe the gull lost its concentration!
As the wind dropped this evening a good hatch of insects came off my
local irrigation pond in Berea and attracted three Swallows and one
House Martin. The first of the year for me.
