Pencarnan Report

A negative wind-chill and pockets of frost did not discourage us from a full dawn circuit of our patch.

On departure, from the campsite, 7 Divers in Whitesands Bay -  too distant to ID each individual apart from the Red-throated, resplendent in summer dress. Close to Point St John were 2 Golden Plovers showing no sign of colour change as they fed close to a small group of Wheatears, all of them attracted to the first field to gain the warming rays of a rising sun.

Heading for the Lifeboat Station, 5 Sandwich Terns flew north along the Sound. Nothing to report at St Justinians today, though yesterday the micro-climate of the station's south facing aspect and mature Tree Mallow, attracted two Blackcaps and a Willow Warbler. Overhead the call of passage Siskins and nearby parachuting Meadow and Rock Pipits.

The Elm Tree grove at Rhosson Farm was unusually quite for this time of the year, but passing here yesterday produced a flyover Ringed Plover.

Returning to the camp via Trelydden Farm a herd of cattle attracted a Swallow. The 90 minute walk netted 18 Wheatears.
