The Gann and Marloes

An account of a great day's birding from visiting birder Craig Reed:

I am a visiting birder from the midlands (hense the blogger name Midlands Birder) and am just dropping in an email to fill in the details to Daves report earlier on the Pembs birds blog.

Starting off at the Gann we found a Little stint at around 1pm when the tide was high with a mixed flock of 20 Dunlin and 13 Sanderling. About a minute after finding the stint the flock was flushed by a Peregrine and most of the flock (including the stint) flew in the direction of Marloes). 6 Dunlin on the pools. 20 Whimbrel and Barwit in the wider estuary.

At Marloes, we were standing by the gate waiting for the Ibis at 4:23 when I noticed the Arctic Skua fly low (around 50 ft above our heads) south. The bird was in no mood to hang around though and flew straight through. We quickly moved to look over the bay behind the track, but the bird had gone, just a few Kittiwakes. The Ibis shown well after some time, landing on the 'main' marsh area giving decent views. A single Black tailed Godwit was seen in flight over te marsh earlier, but while watching the ibis the flock of 6 dropped in, and they fed together at the back!
A great afternoons birding!
