Catching up.

Hectic times but a couple of recent hopefully interesting sightings from Fishguard /Goodwick.  This morning just after 6.30 am.  It is my fortunate position of being able to watch migration from my bed, my binoculars are ever ready! I was viewing out towards the Preselies when I noticed a flock of about a dozen whimbrel flying South along the valley. Out of nowhere a peregrine stooped on the flock latched onto an unfortunate whimbrel and they both came crashing and cartwheeling to earth landing in a field below our house about 150 yards away. At least three more birds plunged down to join in a melee on the ground which soon were resolved to be yound peregrines. After something of a tussle the parent flew off leaving one juv feeding and mantling whilst the other two perched one on a rock one on a telgraph post , screaching with excitement and hunger. As I write I can still hear some occasional screaming!
Having just caught up with the blog and seen the Hoodie sightings three hoodies flew in together presumably off the sea and landed on the stone tower of the Ocean Lab as we were having a barbeque. This was about 7.pm Sunday evening two weeks ago. I tried to get a pic' but they flew off out of sight towards Goodwick Moor. Other sightings this week included a family of not long fledged Jays down our lane (goodwick and two newly fledged and very noisy buzzards at Fishguard Harbour above Pebbly Beach. A Goldfinch in my garden was still feeding a fledgeling yesterday, all these seem a bit late, maybe a consequence of the cold late spring. Last but not least a spotted flycatcher bred in a hole in the roof of the ocean lab and fledgeed at least three young
