A flock of c70 Oystercatchers at the Gann
at low tide kept close together rather than spread out over the flats and twice
rose to circle round and land again. A through passage of Oystercatchers has
been established in Pembrokeshire during August each year and it seems relevant that a
group of 12 was reported passing southwards at Strumble Head yesterday morning
and a group of 12 passing over Marloes Mere later in the day (in which direction
were they heading?). Maybe the birds at the Gann were pausing en route to
somewhere like the Bury Inlet.
