A covey of 12 Red-legged Partridges near Rudbaxton seen today, was a reminder that the bird community do not really have an understanding of the distribution of this species, which are widely and sporadically released for shooting purposes. Pheasant releases in this area include a large proportion of dark hybrids, some as dark as Japanese Pheasants but mostly showing blue and purple glosses rather than green.Releases or not these birds do add an element of interest to the open minded.
