Newgale Kumlien's Gulls etc
A really exciting morning shift at Newgale again. The usual adult Kumlien's was on the Marsh along with a 2nd cal yr Glaucous Gull to start with. Then Kathy and I bumped into Clive Hurford who had also seen the nr adult Glaucous Gull. We were joined by Jonathan Bennett and found two (apparent) adult Iceland Gulls on the north end of the Beach. Clive and I both took photos and only when checking them spotted that one was a Kumlien's. It was much less boldly marked on the primaries as compared to the original adult so the markings were hard to see in the blustery conditions even at quite close range. The original adult also has a missing inner primary or outer secondary in the right wing and this one is pristine. I don't have any photos of the Iceland, I hope Clive has - just to be sure. Then the 2nd cal yr Nelson's Gull appeared and just to make a change from Gulls a Bonxie was patrolling the south end of the Beach. Phew! Clive, Jon and I had to leave (reluctantly) but the afternoon shift will be led by Dave Astins.
