We had a few hours watching the sea this afternoon in a reasonably sheltered sunny position. Not too many birds noted but we did manage a couple of sand martins and also a couple of swallows heading north into the strong northerly wind between14:30 to 15:00 hrs. Also a couple of Manx Shearwaters offshore both heading south in the same period.
A couple of red-throated divers were on the sea (both probably adults - one in summer plumage the other still in winter plumage). Besides small parties of auks and a steady movement of gannets and a northward coastal movement of lesser black backed gulls (probably no more than 30-40 or more in a couple of hours) it was fairly quiet at sea.
