A brilliant Skokhom Bird Observatory re-launch and a fly-over hen harrier near Poyston Cross

Having attended (with many others) the excellent event held at Dale to re-launch  Skokholm Bird Observatory (well done to everyone involved with the organisation of this event) we decided to check out some rookeries that had not been counted this year, taking a somewhat circuitous route back home to Martletwy.

Not far from Poyston Cross we had nice but brief views of a hen harrier flying north as it was being mobbed by one of the rooks from the nearby New Bridge rookery. Annie managed a couple of "grab shots" from our moving car as I tried to slow down on the narrow country lane with a vehicle close behind. Plenty of rook nests (most young recently fledged) and a nice way to end a really memorable day.

PS. any counts of nests at rookeries, especially in the north of the county, will be greatly appreciated.  How many at Lly-y-fran this year?  We have counted most of the easily accessible rookeries in the south of Pembrokeshire, also those in St Davids, and did Dale this morning before the Skokholm event.
