Out and about
A few observations from past week. Interesting to see a Chough anting above Mill Bay recently. It was tearing into the turf in what I assumed to be feeding activity but then spread its gently fluttering wings low over what turned out to be an ants nest, it was very reluctant to move and obviously was 'enjoying' the experience. Ty Rhyg: First cuckoo of the year calling above Ty Rhyg farm over the weekend, seems to be a few Whitethroats here this year, also Sedge Warbler and Grasshopper Warblers calling, Willow Warbler nest making. Marloes last night: A drake Teal still 'guarding' area of vegetation plus 2 pairs, the drake Tuftie on its own in North Pond, 3 pairs of Shoveler and 5 drakes. A young Coot calling. c100 Linnets on phone wires. Female Sparrowhawk plunged into the willows out from Britton Hide probably attracted by numbers of warblers flitting around in it. Male Kestrel on coast path.
