We spent a few hours gazing out to sea this afternoon. There wasn't much activity other than regular northward and southward movements of gannets, a few auks and fulmars and a Manx shearwater. We noted 3 male common scoters briefly resting on the sea (a single then two together) before flying off south-west. As usual there were a few red-throated divers feeding and flying in the area, including a summer-plumage adult and an immature feeding together sometimes less than 100 metres off the base of the cliff. We also noted our first two sandwich terns of the spring heading north.
Later we noted small numbers of sand martins feeding over the Alun Valley and that two green-winged teals were still present at Newgale - photos show both birds together.
In woodland at Slebech yesterday (31st March) we noted quite a few singing blackcaps and also a couple of singing willow warblers back in typical breeding habitat.
