Newport ...observations on bird behaviour

I was interested by the comments re the Bar-tailed Godwits on yesterday's sightings page. I was on holiday in Newport last week and down at the estuary every day. There were 2 Barwits there all week but they had nothing to do with each other. On Weds morning (3rd) a flock of 4 more Barwits arrived, but there was no reaction from either of the others. The flock 4 soon moved on.
Also on Weds morning there were 2 Common Sandpipers near the bridge. They were very flighty and didn't settle. At one point they flew up quite high and were immediately mobbed by Swallows - something I've never seen before.
