Forecast called for a seawatch this morning at Strumble Head, accompanied by keen young birder Toby Phelps from South Pembrokeshire (http://tobysbirdingblog.blogspot.co.uk/) & up to 8 other 'Strumblers'. Fairly quiet, with the highlights being a juvenile Long-tailed Skua & 10 Balearic Shearwaters, along with 4 Arctic Skuas and a Bonxie (7am-10.30am was our stint). I was happy, and Toby was delighted with 3 life ticks.
Down at Dale this afternoon I caught up with Brian's 3 Dotterel, 2 were with 10 Ringed Plover to the east of the triangle adjacent to the rally circuit and another flew over calling and continued in a north-westerly direction heading towards Marloes Mere (ish). Also on the airfield 2 Whinchats, 5 Wheatears, 7 Lapwing, a decent flock of Starlings (no Rose-coloured, I did look...) & at least 5 Snipe. A quick look in Dale village for migrants was very quiet (but always looks promising). Finally, I too saw the 2 Red-throated Divers at the Gann, an adult in almost full breeding plumage showing a juvenile how to fish - the adult was successful, the juvenile was not! Not very often we get any RTDs at this site, especially in October.
