Ducks - dodgy & not so dodgy

A great day out with John Parker showing him the nooks and crannies of the Cleddau Estuary.  A great variety of wildfowl and waders seen.  Waders were John's target and we racked up an impressive list: Black-tailed & Bar-tailed Godwit, Greenshank, Redshank, Lapwing, Golden Plover, Curlew, Turnstone, Oystercatcher, Dunlin & Ringed Plover.  The ducks were very impressive, again the vast numbers of Wigeon at the Pembroke River the highlight, and the flock contained an interesting looking hybrid that had the bright green blaze of an American Wigeon.  It was either a hybrid Wigeon x American Wigeon or perhaps Wigeon x Mallard (because of the extent of the green blaze over the crown).  Interesting nonetheless.  A little detour to have a peek at Bosherston was rewarded with a female Garganey at the top end of the eastern arm below Stackpole Court - a real late one!  There are still a few around the UK (5 today scattered from Lothian to London).  Birds of Pembrokeshire refers to birds seen in October and an unusual record of 4 in Dale Roads in January 1968 (possibly very early spring birds, the do usually arrive late February / early March), so the Bosherston bird possibly one of a very few (only?) November Pembrokeshire records.

Rosemary - Little Egret has been reported but no information back as yet.  Will post as soon as I get anything.  I have a feeling it is from a ringing project on the Menai Straits.
