Kilpaison, Castlemartin

At Kilpaison with the tide just dropping this morning and the wind howling into the bay there were 30 Brents on the waters edge with 2 Redshank, 1 Turnstone, a Grey Plover and loads of Wigeon.

At Castlemartin Corse a Merlin flew from the fence along the bridal path and put on a good display as it dashed along to perch on another fence on the south side of the Corse.
In a field close to Starmans Hall there were 400 Lapwing and 550 Golden Plover. There seemed to be a Christmas Truce thing going on as they all just sat there as I walked past just 50 yards or so away. A further 100 Golden Plover were in the churned up field with the cattle on the south side of the Corse together with 400 or so Lapwing. Another 450 Lapwing were in fields on the north side.

The 2 Marsh Harriers were again over the reed bed or perched in bushes. One of them also spent some time on the ground in a field on the north side looking rather like a Buzzard foraging for worms.

A group of 6 Ravens flew over. Very little in the way of small birds. A reminder that there is now some general access to the Corse - see here for details.
