On
Saturday we came across a merlin on a recent kill in a lane in Neyland
(Neyland Terrace). It was at the foot of a hedge and refused to leave
its prey, only dragging it a few yards away when disturbed. It was too
big to fly away with. It waited patiently
whilst we took pictures. The pictures are not that good, taken on a
compact and not too close. I did not want to scare it away from its
well-deserved meal.
There seem to be a lot of merlins around this winter having seen 2
others this year, at the Newgale marsh and Plumstone mountain.
