I picked up significant plover activity from a bedroom window in my
parents’ house in Mesur-y-dorth about 11 am on Jan 1st, so went up the
road to investigate and found them in the fields along the minor road
between the A487 and the B4330 (closer to the latter): what with the
wind and the birds being skittish (there was a buzzard about) or else
huddled together at eye level, it was hard to count with any accuracy,
but there were at least a thousand Lapwing, and I’d have thought a good
2500 Golden Plover (also one presumably confused but happy-looking
Dunlin), as well as hundreds of Starlings, plus a pair of Raven looking a
bit territorial (could be the same birds as I saw at Abereiddy on the
30th, I guess).
