A fairly quiet Ramsey Sound this morning

We were up at Ramsey Sound from first light, watching the area until c.1400 hrs just as the rain started. Not too many birds were seen in the Sound this morning, other than the local gulls, small numbers of auks and fulmars. A few adult med gulls moved north and south through the area and possibly two different ones were observed resting on the beach and offshore at Porthselau within a small mixed flock of mostly black-headed gulls.

A red-throated diver fed offshore at Porthselau but was never close in. The light was pretty awful for photos and all the birds were really too distant but, having lugged the camera gear there, some images were attempted anyway.

All in all a fairly quiet and very dull, cloudy morning; made slightly more colourful by an RNLI/Coastguard exercise involving the lifeboat, inshore rescue rib and a Coastguard Rescue helicopter.
