More terns, and a Sooty

Another run out to Grassholm today, albeit a very irregular track as we diverted to look at every bird and cetacean.

Fewer Guillemots visible than the day before but, whenever we stopped the engine, their cheeping carried over the glassy sea, probably for many hundreds of yards.

Even more terns than yesterday: perhaps 30+ in the course of a couple of hours, with fantastic views of a Common directly overhead, and a flock of 10 Commons sitting on the water, tails cocked almost vertical. 2-3 Sandwich terns mixed in with the Commons, feeding north of Grassholm.

Plenty of Manxies, especially towards sunset, when we found several rafts of 300+. And a fabulous Sooty Shearwater that cut across our bow about 15 yards away, and gave us a textbook ID lesson as it banked in bright sunlight.

On a Grassholm a rather interesting leucistic Shag: photos to follow.

4-5 Pods of Common Dolphins, and an elusive Minke Whale north of Grassholm.
