Its always interesting to visit the Mere in a Northerly wind (not pleasant in the Britton Hide, mind you!).
But duck which are normally well hidden in a Southerly show well, so its worth the effort.
The biggest surprise was the number of Wigeon: at least 60 counted, and 30+ Gadwall. Relatively few Teal, by comparison.
The drake Pintail is looking smarter by the week as he moults into full adult plumage.
