Castlemartin coast this morning; Angle Bay/Milford Haven this afternoon

A few wheatears at Castlemartin (Frainslake-Bluckspool) seemed to be in pairs and were close to locations where they usually breed, a few more were at Penally yesterday afternoon - females mainly. From Penally coast yesterday we could also see at least 4 choughs feeding over on St Margaret's Island. They came over to Giltar coast later on.

A male kestrel was hunting behind Bluckspool over Linney dunes; possibly a returning breeding bird? If so, hopefully they will breed successfully this year - we'll keep you posted Paddy!

Offshore from Bluckspool were 2 distant red-throated divers resting on the sea. One in full adult summer plumage was unfortunately much too far away for a photo opportunity.

Over in Angle bay (village end) we noted a reasonable variety of waders including c. 35 black-tailed godwits about a dozen knot, 15 turnstones, several dunlin and five pintail. There were also five pale-bellied brents over on the Kilpaison side.

A walk down to the lifeboat station gave us distant views of a great northern diver - just about in range briefly for a record shot. We've been to this location 3 times since beginning of January and a diver species has been present in the area each time.

Despite the nice spring weather, still no hirundines obviously passed areas that we visited this weekend. We also expected to see small flocks of returning migrant linnets moving along the coast, but didn't see any where we were.
