A pleasant walk in Canaston Woods listening to recently arrived Blackcaps. The first song we heard was perfect - straight out of the Blackcap Standard Songbook - undoubtedly an experienced bird who has done this all before. The second one was extraordinary - a very long sequence of scratchy mumbles followed by just 3 perfect clear Blackcap notes! I think this one had a lot to learn - presumably his first breeding season. A third one was somewhere in between. Most interesting.
