Cormorants on Thorn and Stack forts

We had a look around the two big forts in the Haven this afternoon.

On Thorn Island we could see no Cormorants nesting at all; in previous years they have been easy to see on the sloping ground down from the fort walls. But the fort is now occupied, and it is possible that the Cormorants are sensitive to the disturbance from the extensive works.

The good news is that the colony on Stack seems to be thriving: we counted 18 possible nests, and could see other birds inside the rim of the fort that could also be potential nesters.

The other good sighting was a pair of Choughs repeatedly entering one of the openings. They were recorded as nesting here last year, so fingers crossed.
